Monk Seal Mornings | Four Seasons Oahu Family Photographer
How many mornings start by having coffee with a monk seal?
When we got down to the beach on this lovely morning we found Benny, a 14 year old Hawaiian monk seal taking a sandy snooze. Fortunately, there is usually a monk seal volunteer standing guard to protect them and make sure they are not disturbed. He directed on a path that would ensure we maintained a safe distance that did not disturb Benny.
Despite the distance between us, we could still hear Benny let out the occasional snore. Clearly, Benny hadn't had his morning coffee yet.
While Benny was sleeping, this family was full of energy and ready to explore for the day and have some fun.
This entire family is very active - the parents are both runners, and all the children are involved in sports. They moved quickly, exploring the rest of our surroundings. A closer inspection revealed a world of wonder in nearby tide pools - colorful fish and tiny crabs.
After a little exploration, we were ready to take a few portraits for the walls. How happy is this family together?
On the way back, we followed the monk seals guard's instructions and carefully tiptoed past Benny's resting area, where he was still snoring away. All in a day's work for a monk seal!
As for this family, they headed back to stock up on coffee before heading out to explore the rest of the island's wonders.
