Meet Ashley | The Ola Collective Photographers
Meet Ashley, photographer, nature lover, and queen of organization. Ashley’s warm, caring personality paired with her eye for the most flattering angles helps her subjects feel comfortable and beautiful! Ashley has been part of our collective since fall of 2018, and in addition to capturing beautiful photos, she helps with our office management. We are so grateful for her kind heart, creative eye, and the organizational skills she brings to Ola.
Born and raised on Oahu, Ashley grew up with a deep appreciation for the every day beauty of her home in Hawaii, but still makes time to regularly travel and explore other areas across the ocean and beyond. When she’s not traveling or taking photos, Ashley can be found creating custom graphic designs and lettering, or her other many artistic outlets.
In addition to her creative drive, Ashley has a heart for little children, and this shows through in stunning captures of little ones. Check out our blog post to learn more about her!
First of all, can you tell us a little about your background and where you come from?
I am a mix of many different ethnicity’s, mainly consisting of Hawaiian and Chinese. I was born and raised on this beautiful island of Oahu. I’m originally from Kailua, but recently moved to Nanakuli on the west side of Oahu.
How did you get started in photography?
I’ve always had an interest in photography since high school, never did I think it would grow the way it has. At first, I would photograph mostly landscape just as a simple hobby. Throughout my beginning years of college, I began taking some photos of family and found an interest in portrait photography.
What are some of your favorite things to photograph, and why?
I love taking photos of little families and toddlers. They’re so much fun! Capturing raw emotions and the love within a family is so special. Getting photos of children that the parents love makes me feel so accomplished. I’ve also continued to do landscape photography on the side, mostly while traveling.
What is your biggest motivation and inspiration to keep taking photos?
Just my simple love for photography and being behind a camera. Creating timeless moments that people can cherish forever makes it so worth it, especially when they love their photos.
Can you tell us about one of your favorite adventures?
It’s a little difficult for me to choose a specific favorite, every experience is a privilege. Some of my favorite adventures include traveling to new places, seeing new things, and creating breathtaking memories. I absolutely love to travel to a variety of national parks to experience nature’s different forms. However, although I love to travel, Hawaii also offers some of the best adventures. One of my all time favorite things to do is simply driving out to North Shore, spending all day near the water, and watching the sun go down.
