What to Wear | Four Seasons Oahu Photographer
Finding the perfect outfit for your photoshoot can sometimes be a challenge, so we put together a blog post to help give you some ideas!
When coordinating colors for a family, we recommend starting with whoever has the hardest time finding the perfect outfit they love. Find something you love and feel great in, and then pull colors from that to put together a complimentary color scheme for the rest of your family. We've included a few sample color schemes below, but ultimately, this shoot is about YOU and making you feel beautiful. Wear something you love and feel good in, and your confidence will shine through in your photos.
Photoshoots are also a great excuse to pick up new outfits for the family! Luckily, the Four Seasons Resort Oahu has an in-house boutique with stylists that can assist in coordinating outfit selections and helped style many of the families shown below!
Here are also some guides to planning your outfits - what style best fits you?
Corals, Turquoise, and Pastels
Pastel colors are good option for both morning or sunset. To add a little variety, choose a pattern for one family member and pull solid colors from that pattern for the remaining members.
Varying Shades of the Same Color
An alternative to matching everybody is to choose different shades of the same color. Adding a pop of color through accessories also helps each individual stand out uniquely - just make sure to include solid colors and variety to break it up, or the photos will start to get a little “busy”!
If you’re feeling bold, some fun, bright colors on the beach can be a great way to bring some beautiful pop to your photos. The only colors we advise you stay away from are neons, fluorescents, and really bright pinks & oranges. These colors often glow in pictures, and can cast funny color reflections on your skin. We love how the stylists at Caprice boutique tied the gentleman’s navy and khaki’s in with the colors in her patterned dress.
Opt for earthy shades of browns, grays, and dusty pinks for something subtle, yet rich.
Classic Black and White
Black and white is a very simple yet elegant choice. Choosing long and flowy dresses also add a beautiful touch, especially for varying positions.
What to avoid
Large logos or text as can distract from your face
Very tiny patterns or lines can sometimes photograph with some distortion
Bright, neon colors can cast a funny shade on your skin and face
Be cautious of skin-tight clothes that can exaggerate lines that you don’t always want to emphasize.
If you’re wearing a dress, we recommend something a little longer so you can comfortably bend or sit on sand or rocks without worrying about anything showing!
If you’re still not sure…
You can always layout all your clothing options and email us a picture for advice!
Or email the resort boutique in advance and they can prepare some options for you to look at when you arrive. Andrew, the stylist pictured here, is just one of the talented and friendly faces available to help you select your perfect pairings.
Have fun, and we look forward to capturing your style!
